A Wine chosen by the Matrix
The first luxury wine brand in the world, celebrated by King Charles II, Napoleon III, and Thomas Jefferson.
The year 1855, Paris, France. The Exposition Universelle is about to host visitors from all over the world. Napoleon III decided that all the guests should be served the best Bordeaux wines.
However, what are the best Bordeaux wines?
To answer this question, a group of wine brokers, by order of Napoleon III, created the first classification of Bordeaux wines based on châteaus’ reputation and trading price.
The first on a list of TOP-5 Bordeauxs and the only one not from the Medoc region is…. Château Haut-Brion. 🍷
What’s Château Haut-Brion
Haut-Brion is one of the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux. The estate Château Haut-Brion dates back to 1525, but the grapes have been grown on the property since Roman times.
The wine from Haut-Brion has always been perceived as a high-class wine. During 1660 and 1661, 169 bottles of the Haut-Brion were served at the court of King Charles II.
In 1787 Thomas Jefferson, the Founding Father and the 3rd President of the United States purchased six cases of vintage Château Haut-Brion during his travels through Bordeaux.
Nowadays, the château is owned by the Prince Robert of Luxembourg, who has acted as an administrator at Haut-Brion since the age of 18.
Magnificent wine in a legendary movie
It's a shame (or luck😉) that I watched The Matrix: Reloaded for the first time in February 2023. Of course, I couldn’t miss the product placement of the Château Haut-Brion in a scene where The Merovingian meets Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity at the Le Vrai restaurant.
The Merovingian (or the Frenchman) is an old program within the Matrix. He loves to speak French, and he adores Frech wine.
“Château Haut-Brion, 1959. Magnificent wine.” - The Merovingian
The Matrix is everywhere. However, if the oldest program in the matrix chooses Château Haut-Brion among all the vineyards, I guess it is not just a magnificent wine. It is a wine beyond the matrix and classifications.
